Jigsaw puzzle

$35.00

Greetings! This is an original photograph, taken at the Adeline Hornbeck Homestead. This very special place is located on the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument in Colorado. This homestead is a testament to the tenacity and courage of an early woman settler to the area. In the 1870s, after the loss of two husbands and two homes, this single mother of four moved her family to the Florissant valley. At a time when women had few opportunities to own property, she successfully filed a claim to homestead 60 acres. Within seven years, she had built a sizeable home (for the times), nine outbuildings (only a few still left standing) and ran her own livestock. What an amazing pioneer! It isn’t about gender or size or bank account; it’s about courage and stamina and focus. She did it!
